In this class the children are now becoming confident individuals and enjoy taking the initiative in leading others: they get great pleasure from working things out for themselves. As the children are all starting to read more at school they are ready to apply the same skills to reading music. By the end of the year they are able to sing well in tune and as well as hear what they are singing in their heads. They understand pitch using handsigns and are able to read pitch notation and rhythmic stick notation as well as learning to sightread rhythm and pitch. A strong sense of beat is also well established and they are becoming confident in working in 2 parts. They have a good understanding of the form of music which allows them to start improvising and they have developed good listening skills.
