The main instrument we use is the voice. If children learn to pitch and feel the rhythm and pulse it can then be transferred onto any instrument.
We use a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments throughout the classes: drums; maracas; claves; guiros; castanets; woodblocks; bells; finger cymbals; triangles; glockenspeils and tone bars.
We also use a Finnish folk instrument called the Kantela which allows the children to play a simple accompaniment to the folksongs.
